About Us
Writing the Lovely Planet of ‘How to disappear in Europe’, we noticed that the ring of control is getting tighter. Once we were promised we could travel the whole of Europe without a passport, but now we cannot even go outside our front door without an identity card.
Before the disappearance of the physical boarders between the countries in the Schengen agreement, the immigration police could stop you at the border. Nowadays the immigration police is cruising anywhere they like within the country. Stopping who ever they like. Do you want to guess who is getting stopped? So again, if the colour of your skin or the colour of your shirt is wrong, if you have too many flowers painted on your van, you have black curtains at your window or produce an exotic cooking smell, you can become a suspect.
So we give away the crazy clothes and even then we have to get used to the idea that we are being watched. Information that used to be nobody’s business, (such as our mother's maiden name, our DNA code or our consuming behaviour) has become everybody’s big business. Our private information is sold daily. There is no place on earth we cannot visit from our computer chair thanks to ‘Google Earth’. The government is telling us that security against terrorism is more important than our privacy. What channel are you on?
We'd rather keep our private information private. As much as we can. |
